Accommodations - Hotels

For those of you that find the free campground at Skull Hollow (on the south side of Grey Butte) to be inadequate or tough on the ole' back, contrary to popular opinion, there are actually overnight accomodations in the Redmond area. Follow the link and away you go to a webpage that doesn't ramble and has a list of hotels in the area.

Why Is Lance Retiring?

Simply because he has to... After 39 years of fighting fire Lance will once again get to enjoy a summer without having to wearing a yellow.

There are many places Lance has worked during his career in fire, though the start was during the hay days of logging, on a BD (brush disposal) crew located in the hamlet of Quilcene on the Olympic National Forest.

From there Lance has worked in a lot of facets of fire including helitack, suppression crews, and hotshots crews. The hotshot crews (and forests) who have had the honor (and patience) of hosting Lance's no bs attitude, have included the Rogue River, Winema, Redmond and Priveville Hotshots.

The last 11 out of the last 12 years have been with the Prineville IHC on the Lookout Mountain Ranger District of the Ochoco National Forest. During this time he has mentored many lives, made many friends, and fostered a postive learning environment which is focused on professionalism, hard work, and fun.

This retirement party is a celebration of a career which has touch so many lives in so many ways!
